Strawberry cheese danish
Ingredients;
- 4oz (113g) Strawberries
- 2 tsp granulated sugar
- 8 oz (226g) room temperature cream cheese
- 1/2 cup (50g) powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 whole lemon zest and Juice from 1 lemon
- 1 tsp cornstarch (optional)
- 1 package of puff pastry
- 1 egg
For glaze:
- 1/4 cup (25g) powdered sugar
- 1 tsp lemon juice Juice
- leftover from strawberries about 1/2 tsp
- 1 tsp water
This recipe makes 8 Individual danishes Note: if you use jam leave the first 2 ingredients out. Glaze can be made same way, just replace strawberry juice with water.
Instructions:
Slice strawberries and mix with sugar in a small bowl. set aside for later.
In a large bowl mix cream cheese and powdered sugar together.
Add about half of a beaten egg, vanilla, lemon juice and zest. mix in well and add cornstarch if desired.
Remove puff pastry from freezer and thaw according to package. Cut into four squares from top to bottom. then cut a L shape on both sides of each square. brush egg wash made from remaining egg over each square and fold the L shapes over each other.
Bake in oven 425°F/218°C about 10 min. Use a fork to punch wholes in the middle.
Add cream cheese mixture and strawberries in the middle. Bake in oven 425°F/218°C for another 10 min.
Mix powdered sugar, strawberry juice, lemon juice and water in a bowl.
After danishes cooled slightly, drizzle over all the Danishes.
